Transcript for The Carriage.

Roll opening credits.

FADE IN

EXT: VILLAGE, NIGHTTIME

An establishing shot of a large village sometime in the twilight hours. Various buildings are seen in semi-silhouette, such as shops, a church, and houses, smoke coming out of chimneys in some of the houses. Text appears onscreen.

England, 1929.

We linger on this shot for a few seconds.

CUT: We're in the streets now, foggy, grey and characterless. Houses are seen in the background, and a a YOUNG BOY is seen onscreen. he looks no older then 8 years old, has short brown hair, and is wearing a black blazer with blue shorts. He is walking along the streets, holding a leash.

CUT: The sidewalk, a dog is seen attached to the leash, its fur black in color.

CUT: Wide shot of the the boy and dog walking on the sidewalk, we stay on this shot for a few seconds.

CUT: At a point where the street splits into two roads, the boy and his dog come into frame. The boy stops at the edge of the sidewalk and looks both ways. He then crosses the street.

CUT: Front shot of the boy walking.

CUT: Close up of the edge of the sidewalk, the boy's foot comes into shot, he trips on it.

CUT: The boy, in the process of falling, he lets go of the leash in the process and hits the ground. The dog runs off, the boy looks down the street at the now offscreen dog.

CUT: The dog, running away into the fog.

BACK TO: The boy, he uses all his strength to get up, and runs after the dog.

YOUNG BOY:

Hey, don't run away from me now!

CUT: Wide shot of the foggy street. The dog emerges from it, shortly followed by the boy.

EXT: PARK ENTRANCE

The entrance of a park, a large black metal gate surrounded by fence, left slightly ajar. The street ends here. The dog comes into shot and enters the park, shortly followed by the boy. He stops for a brief moment, and looks up at the gate, now slightly intimidated. Despite this, he quickly returns to his senses and enters the park.

EXT: PARK

The park, it's dark, gloomy, and covered in fog, just like the streets. Large trees surround the area, we are focused on a dirt path. In the distance, the boy is seen by the gate, slowly walking away from it.

He takes a few steps before stopping for a moment, observing the environment, obviously creeped out. In the background, we see the gate slowly close itself.

After a beat, we hear the whines of an animal, most likely the dog. The boy becomes alarmed by this. He turns around.

CUT: The gate, the boy enters the shot, shaking and pulling at the gate, but it is now locked shut. The boy seems exasperated at this realization. He starts banging on the gate.

YOUNG BOY:

Hey! Someone, anyone! Get me out of here!

He bangs once more on the gate, but he slowly starts to stop. He then slumps down to the ground, we pan down to see him lying against the gate. His eyes are closed, he's trying to get some sleep to pass the time.

Slowly, sounds of rustling start to fade in. They slowly get louder and louder, and the boy begins to awaken. He looks up fearfully at something approaching him offscreen.

CUT: Wide shot of the forest, a horse carriage emerges from the fog. The horses themselves are completely snow white, the carriage is red in color with gold patterns. The coachman of the horses is seen clearly in the distance.

CUT: Close up of the coachman, he is an old man, with long, fuzzy-looking white hair, along with a stubble beard. He is a wearing a dark suit with a top hat. He looks unpleased.

CUT: The door of the carriage, which has now come to a stop. It opens to reveal a young woman wearing a bright red dress, she has brown hair and has a supernatural beauty to her.

CUT: Wide shot of the boy laying by the gate, looking in disbelief, the woman comes into shot, walking towards the boy.

CUT: In the boy's POV, the woman comes into shot, looking at the boy.

WOMAN:

...you seem lost. Do you want some help?

BACK TO: Wide shot of the boy and woman, the woman puts her hand out to the boy. The boy looks at the hand for a moment, he has no real choice but to accept the help.

He puts his hand on the woman's and gets up, he looks down for a moment.

CUT: Close up of the boy, lifting his head up.

BOY:

Uh, yeah, thank yo--

CUT: Close up of the woman. Suddenly, her head bloodlessly splits open, the inside of her head is nothing but flesh. Up at the neck, we see a hole, from this hole, the upper body and head of a bear like creatures jumps out of it, lunging towards the boy.

CUT: The coachman, looking at this unfold, we hear slurping sounds combined with muffled screams of the boy for a moment.

CUT: The woman, her head is still split, but the bear creature and boy are gone. The woman turns around, the head opening and closing a few times in the process.

Her hands then start to visibly deteriorate, crumbling to dust. This spreads throughout her body, until there is nothing left but a dress and dust. She has served her purpose.

BACK TO: The coachman, he sighs and turns his carriage around, heading back into the foggy depths of the forest.

FADE OUT

FADE IN, EXT: VILLAGE, MORNING

Same shot of the village we saw in the beginning, the sun rising in the background, illuminating the entire village.

INT: HOUSE, ROOF

It is dark, one of our main characters is seen, sleeping on a mattress, a large window letting in a little of the morning light. This is JACOB, he is a caucasian male with shoulder length black hair. A blanket covers his body.
